Scar Treatments

Scar treatments are not a one size fits all sort of deal. There is a different type of scar for every health scenario. You may need a scar treatment for a severe burn you had at one time. Or, you could have had an accident on your bike that resulted in a scar. Then there is the need for treatment for acne scars.

So as you can see, each scar should be treated individually as the scar treatments will be different. For instance, treatment for an acne pitted scar may be a surgical procedure, typical through a cosmetic surgeon. Pitted acne scars need treatment that is a bit more advanced than the usual topical acne scar treatments.

There are other types of acne scars that would benefit more from a cosmetic procedure than a scar treatment cream. For instance, there is an acne scar laser treatment that can help with resurfacing the skin area in which the scars reside. While there is no one acne best scar treatment, you can choose the best acne scar treatment for each individual case as acne presents itself in a variety of ways. Other acne scar treatments include chemical peels, dermabrasion and special topical applications.

Beyond acne scar treatment, there are other types of scar that need attention as well. For some scars that resist the scar treatment creams, you could always try a silicone scar treatment. This typically comes in small sheets that you apply over the scarred area and then secure with medical tape. It also comes in a gel which you then cover with surgical gauze. The deal with silicone scar treatments is not quite understood. Physicians feel that the silicone works to stimulate the collagen beneath the surface to repair the scar tissue.

Other parties feel that sulphur scar treatment may work on certain scars like those who have acne because the topical ointment treatments for active acne have sulphur. This sulphur typically will work on fresh acne scars such as discolorations.

When it comes to scar treatments, your best bet is to follow the lead of your doctor. Different types of scars will require different methods of treatment. For instance, small keloid scars could be treated with steroid injections or cryotherapy. In addition, the condition of the rest of your skin will also dictate the proper protocol of scar treatments. Rest assured that almost any scar can be treated successfully or at least become faded or less prominent with the proper care.
